Gallerstravaganza...
2007-06-30
What, you don't know what a gallerstravaganza is? Really? I guess that makes sense because I just made it up. In fact, this marks an update so collosal, that it required the making up of a word to aptly convey to you the weight of said update. In short, we now have the ability to manage and attach images to our blog postsings, which means lots of pretty things for you to look at... possibly. I wish you could see the backend in place for this thing, it's really cool. There's all sorts of editing and tagging going on... It's asynchronous. Anyway, just take my word for it, it's cool you wish you could see it.
So, to kick off this new age of being able to attach images to posts, I have attached several of my paintings that I have started, but have not yet finished. If/when I get around to finishing them, I will post them here. I have the next 4 days off from work, so we'll see how that goes.
You're It...
2007-06-24
So I just finished the tagging feature. These things are kind of interesting to try to maintain because they are so nebulous. For those of you who don't know, tags are a way of grouping things together. For instance, this post is tagged as The Candy Coating, Features, and Tags. The benefit of this is that you can later retrieve information based on these tags. So, say, you want to see about things pertaining just to this site, you can click on the The Candy Coating tag and see all other posts tagged the same. Overall, it's a pretty neat feature if you ask me, hopefully readers will make use of it. The only thing that makes it a little tricky, are things like misspellings, and divergences of plurality, or, possibly, misuse of synonyms. For our purposes, it shouldn't be too much of a problem because it is used in a very controlled context. Ultimately, it's only as useful as you guys find it to be, so please, by all means let me know what you think. That is the point of the site after all. That's it for now.
So What's This All About?...
2007-06-11
So, we're baha'i but we didn't want to make this a "baha'i thing," so to speak. We are baha'is, and that certainly flavors our world views, but we are also simply people we perspectives, and we would like to share those perspectives with others. We hope that the things that we observe in this world would be interesting enough that others would care to ponder their intricacies with us. In that manner then, this site becomes our living room, and this blog becomes the coffee table upon which we might all lay our ideas. The Candy Coating was created with two simple principles in mind: entertain with our writing and inspire conversation with our ideas. We invite you to come chat with us.
The Promise...
2007-06-10
So, I just finished watching The Promise, which is a pretty cool flick if you haven't seen it yet. I'm not going to go too deeply into what it's about, I hate spoilers myself, so I can't bring myself to give them. All I will say is that it's Chinese, it's awesome, and that your copy may or may not be questionably subtitled. On another note, it did get me thinking, in general, about fate and the idea of mastering ones fate. As a person constantly in question of how much control I have over my own fate, I find the topic to be worth some investigation. At the moment, I can not offer any deeper thoughts than to say that this is something I would like to have more thoughts on, tentatively. As of now, I have scheduled an appointment with myself for Teusday. It has been marked on my desk calendar as "plan to be more deep." We'll see how it goes. In all seriousness, I'm considering something along the lines of a short story. I'm not sure that a blog is the best venue for presenting a short story. I think it would be likened to scheduling a Roots concert in a coffee shop. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Cafe Gutenberg, I just don't think they have 50,000 lattes on hand. Hopefully we can revisit this topic later.
As a wonderful aside, I can now solve a Rubix Cube. I'm not saying I'm super fast or nothing, it takes me five or ten minutes, but I can do it. In your face Will Smith.
Rss Feed...
2007-06-04
So, last night, I got a live feed working. This may mean virtually nothing for some, or it may mean the addition of a very cool feature for others. Basically, it allows you to subscribe to the blog and receive update in you perferred feed reader. So, for those wondering, I decided to go with an atom feed as opposed to an rss feed. The standard is a bit more strict on atom which is a good thing. This probably will be filed promptly in the "things you don't really care about," drawer, but there you have it, for your reference at least. As with the addition of any new piece of tech on the site, this shaved a good couple of hours off my life (think 4 or 5). I need to start charging people for my time. Don't worry though, there will be no bill of sales attached to these comments. Words are always free around here, like hippies.
